Twitter GIF to MP4 — Download X GIFs as Video

Here's the open secret: X stores GIFs as MP4s. Paste a GIF post link and download the real video file — lighter than a GIF, loops everywhere.

Auto-detects Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and X. Public content only.

How to download in 3 steps

  1. Copy the GIF post link

On X, open the post containing the GIF, tap Share, then "Copy link to post".

  2. Paste it above

Drop the link in the box. PluckVid detects the GIF and its underlying MP4 payload.

  3. Download the MP4

Tap Download. You get the MP4 that X plays for that GIF — loops, silent, tiny.

What you get

  • The real file

X never stored actual GIFs — the format is MP4 with no sound. You get the genuine article.

  • Smaller than a GIF

The MP4 is typically 5–10× smaller than the equivalent animated GIF.

  • Plays everywhere

MP4 loops in every modern player, browser and chat app.

  • All variants

Where X serves multiple bitrates of the GIF, all are listed.

Why GIFs from Twitter download as MP4

This page's name spoils the punchline: when you "post a GIF" on X, the platform converts it to a silent, looping MP4 at upload time. The GIF file itself never exists on X's servers. So a Twitter GIF to MP4 converter isn't really converting — it's handing you the file X already made.

That's good news twice over: the download is instant (no conversion step), and the MP4 you get is dramatically smaller than any GIF equivalent while looping perfectly in every modern player.

  • Works for posts labeled GIF in the feed
  • Silent loops — the underlying format has no audio track
  • Also listed: post images and any other media in the same post

Download GIF files on any device

PluckVid is browser-based, so X downloads work identically everywhere.

On iPhone, videos land in the Files app (share to Photos to keep them in your camera roll). On Android and desktop, your normal Downloads folder receives the file.

Both x.com and twitter.com links work — they're the same platform, and we normalize them to the same thing before anything is fetched.

  • iPhone / iPad: Safari → Files app, share sheet → Save to Photos
  • Android: Chrome → Downloads or gallery
  • Desktop: browser download, no extension

Private by design

Downloads of GIFs pass through PluckVid without being stored. Metadata caching lasts 15–30 minutes; media is never persisted.

No X account or login is ever requested. Public posts only — protected accounts and followers-only content can't be reached, by design.

Posts on X belong to the people who wrote them. Save for personal use; credit and ask before reposting.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a Twitter GIF to MP4?
Copy the post's link, paste it into the box above, and tap Download. The MP4 is served directly — X stores GIFs as MP4s already, so there's no conversion wait.
Why is the GIF I downloaded an MP4?
Because it always was one. X converts uploaded GIFs to looping, silent MP4s at upload. The MP4 is the original asset.
Does the MP4 have sound?
No — X's GIF pipeline produces silent video loops. If a post has a sound-backed clip, it's a video, not a GIF, and downloads with audio.
Will the MP4 loop in my app?
Yes — every modern video player loops MP4s, and messaging apps auto-loop them like GIFs.
Is the MP4 smaller than the GIF would be?
Dramatically — typically 5–10× smaller at higher visual quality. That's exactly why X made the switch.
